Biography —
Holland Doise is a sophomore undergraduate pursuing a major in Behavioral Neuroscience and a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Kansas. Holland is interested in exploring the neurological and biochemical processes involved in sleep that produce dreams and nightmares, as well as understanding the physical effects that disturbed dreaming has on long-term mental and physical health. She is dedicated to exploring the under researched relationships between sleep and physical health and hopes to develop more personalized disturbed dreaming therapies. She is also interested in the intersectionality between neuroscience, genetics, environment, and social and cultural experiences and how it shapes the development of an individual’s gender and sexual identity. She aims to combine her knowledge and research from the behavioral neuroscience and WGSS fields to help individuals better understand their identities, as well as explore the limitations that patriarchal and imperialistic hierarchical standards have on the development of human interaction and innovation to its fullest potential.
